Reason for Giving: I became interested in arranging a future gift for UVic when planning for my retirement. At the time, there was less than $1 million in endowment funds for the University, and, having been involved with large endowments at other universities, I knew the value of building our endowment funds for the future.

Life insurance was a great ideainfinitely better than a straight gift through my will. I found that by paying a modest premium each year, I could give a larger future gift than I would have otherwise been able to make.

My gift is not designated to a specific area. Sometimes specifying means that the gift has so many strings attached that it cant be used at all. I saw the need for a general development fund at the University, and thats where my gift is going. It can be used where the need is greatest without restrictions.

Planned Giving is a wonderful way to ensure the future of the University of Victoria. Many permanent endowment funds are established with lifetime gifts made by donors who then add to the fund with a bequest, life insurance policy, or other means.
